Expansion of wind energy capacity at Sassenberg-Füchtorfer Moor II

The project
In the Warendorf district, five new wind turbines have been connected to the grid as part of the Sassenberg-Füchtorfer Moor II wind farm. The Enercon E-160 turbines each have a capacity of 5.56 megawatts and together generate just under 70 million kilowatt-hours of climate-friendly electricity annually. This is enough to supply around 25,000 households and save approximately 50,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually compared with conventional electricity generation. The wind farm was planned and constructed by JUWI, whilst the five turbines are operated by Terravent Germany.

More wind energy for the Warendorf district
The Sassenberg-Füchtorfer Moor II wind farm marks a further expansion of North Rhine-Westphalia’s modern wind energy infrastructure. Key features of the project are the five high-performance Enercon turbines, each with a hub height of 167 metres, and the connection via a new substation in Bad Laer. In this way, the wind farm strengthens the regional energy infrastructure and lays the foundations for a long-term, climate-friendly electricity supply.

Wind energy with a focus on nature conservation
During the development of the Sassenberg-Füchtorfer Moor II wind farm, the focus was not only on erecting the turbines but also on establishing the necessary grid infrastructure and implementing extensive mitigation measures. The electricity generated is fed into the grid via a new substation in Bad Laer, some ten kilometres away. Adjacent to the Füchtorfer Moor nature reserve, around two hectares of extensive grassland have also been created, serving as a refuge for lapwings and curlews. The project thus combines the expansion of wind energy with targeted measures for nature and species conservation.
