The process of replacing old turbines with less but more powerful ones is called repowering. Consequently, energy production is increased and yields may even be trebled even though the number of plants is reduced. 2020/21 wind farms with a total capacity of more than six gigawatts will no longer be covered by the German Renewable Energies Act. Increasing Yields

The yield of wind farms has increased large-scale since the 1990s. In 1995, the annual yield of a 500-kilowatt turbine was at about one million kilowatt-hours. Today a five megawatt wind turbine with a rotor diameter of approximately 150 meters achieves the ten- to twelvefold.
