Anfang 2015 hat das deutsch-japanische Joint Venture juwi Shizen Energy in Nishi-Izu, rund 200 Kilometer südwestlich von Tokio, einen Zwei-Megawatt-Solarpark fertiggestellt. Das  Sonnenkraftwerk nutzt die Fläche einer ehemaligen Quarzmine zur Solarstromproduktion.
