Your Tasks

Objectives
The Pre-Execution Project Manager is responsible for delivering the vision and the strategy for EPC and EPCm solutions proposed by the JUWI South African office for photovoltaic and hybrid projects in a manner supporting the JUWI mission and business objectives. This includes understanding and considering the market situation on both clients and suppliers/subcontractors ends to assist the Business Development Department in elaborating and delivering differentiative commercial proposals to the market. The Pre-Execution Project Manager will:
 
  • Bring into the Sales process an EPC execution experience, ensuring that commitments to clients by the Sales Team are accurate and exhaustive.  The principle is to ensure that the Product sold can be built in time and on budget and be ready for the execution PM to pick up after the project reaches preferred EPC status with the client
  • Closely collaborate with and coordinate various internal stakeholders (Engineering, Supply Chain, ED, Construction, Cost Controlling, Finance and Legal) to drive decisions and develop JUWI’s EPC and EPCm solutions
  • Assist the Sales Managers with structuring and selling Early Works Agreements as applicable or appropriate
  • Assist the EPC Project Manager in executing the Early Works Agreement and the Sales Manager and the EPC Project Manager in finalizing the EPC contract
  • Kick-off Matrix team support for EWA approved project phases
  • Facilitate the formal handover from BD-PM to EPC-PM of projects successfully achieved Gate 4.
  • Implement a methodology to enable the systematic and objective quantification of project risk, ever optimizing forecasting accuracy in project lifecycle planning.
  • Assist the various teams to define resource needs for the various EWA and EPC activities
 
The Pre-Execution Project Manager must also have the core competence to understand the impact decisions have on the operational and financial metrics of the EPC business.
 
JUWI is a matrix organization and the Pre-Execution Project Manager will have a functional report to the Senior EPC Product Manager EMEA and a line report to the Head of BD ZA.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Own JUWI South Africa EPC and EPCm solutions and develop a common position internally and externally
  • Accurately and frequently assess and report to Senior EPC Product Manager EMEA on project qualification status and collaborate in updating Business Plan Forecasts accordingly
  • Collaborate with Business Development Team in prioritizing and mitigating project risks
  • Working with the Business Development Team, understand the current market constraints and elaborate differentiative commercial proposals
  • Capitalize on lessons learnt of previous projects acquired during both sales and execution phases
  • Research and understand new market trends relating to EPC design Work closely with Engineering, Procurement and Construction to develop and continuously improve EPC solutions
  • Collaborate with Sales and Legal departments to define contractual Head of Terms
  • Collaborate with Engineering, SCL, Construction, HSE and Legal department to review and negotiate Employer’s Requirement
  • Develop project schedules and generally assist with advice on Early Works Agreements
  • Assist in de-risking proposals via critical reviews and assessments, and ongoing support during the pre-execution stage
  • Provide support to the Business Development teams during elaboration of commercial proposals and commercial discussions with clients to ensure JUWI is selected as preferred partner
  • After reaching preferred bidder status, handover matured EPC commercial leads to appointed execution EPC Project Manager and support when required until deal closing
  • Report Road Map and Pipeline of Early-Stage Projects to Senior EPC Product Manager EMEA to facilitate alignment of Operations organization to Business requirements (resources and processes)

Your Profile

Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 10-year experience in Renewable Energy sector, ideally in PV REIPPPP projects and Hybrid business
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully managing EPC project execution in the PV and/or hybrid business
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting sales activities in the PV and/or hybrid business (definition of technical proposals, pricing, contract schedules preparation)
  • Together with Sales, strong understanding of customer expectations and information needed to deliver proposals with high probability of success (IPP background could be an advantage)
  • Able to handle multiple projects at a time and effectively prioritize to achieve optimal results
  •     Excellent communication skills, able to communicate at all levels internally and externally (both suppliers and customers)
  • Conversant with project management tools like MS Project & MS Office
  • A good understanding of the electrical grid, South African National Grid Code and grid connection process
  • Experience of evaluating processes and making appropriate improvements in line with business needs
  • Experience of contract management and knowledge of standard contract forms – NEC, FIDIC, etc.
  • Demonstrable ability to work in matrix organizations and to operate in a culturally diverse international environment
  • Ability to take ownership of work and perform under limited supervision
  • Fluent in English
  • Willing to travel internationally
