Berlin/Wörrstadt December 8, 2011. Once again, the juwi group has been awarded for its carbon neutral management. As part of the certification project “COzero”, the project developer has been named “pioneer company” and has been awarded a “Golden COzero-Label” by the German green economy association “UnternehmensGrün e.V.”.
A reason to be proud of for Matz Mattern, Director Internal Services juwi Holding AG. “We are very pleased that we have received another award after the Clean Tech Media Award, the Environmental Award and the German Climate Prize. Our consistent commitment to preserving natural resources through the expansion of renewable energies is paying off,” stated Matz Mattern at the awards ceremony. “We see this as an appreciation of our pioneering role that the company plays as an engine of the energy turnaround.” The juwi group’s carbon neutral energy concept consists of a rideshare agency for private carpooling and a company shuttle service, amongst other things. Construction work of a new building at company headquarters has started recently. The building will set new standards in energy efficiency: An energy efficient design as well as a modern LED- concept will minimize energy consumption. The new, energy-efficient kitchen will contribute to climate protection as well. The cafeteria will continue to mainly use fresh food from the region to reduce transport costs.
With its certification project COzero, the green economy association intends to inspire more companies for carbon neutral management. Special attention is given to a credible implementation of a carbon neutral company concept: The focus is not on compensation measures in other parts of the world, but real steps to reduce emissions at company headquarters. That distinguishes the COzero certification from other labels that campaign with climate neutrality.
Not only juwi company headquarters – regarded as one of the world’ s most energy-efficient office buildings - have been evaluated, but also the ecological concepts for the company car fleet (E-cars) and the guidelines for business trips (preferably train instead of plane).
The certification project was launched in March 2011 under the slogan “Role models have to be visible“. Since then, companies can get an evaluation of the CO2 balance of their operational processes. Companies apply for a certificate at “UnternehmensGrün“ and an inspection body. Depending on the fulfillment of the criteria, a company can be awarded with the golden label “CO2-neutral company“ or with the silver label “climate-friendly company“.

With the COzero screening criteria, “UnternehmensGrün“ designates the measures that need to be taken to lead the economy on the right track,“ says Dr. Nina Scheer, managing director UnternehmensGrün.
