From Water to Energy
Hydropower is one of the oldest ways to generate power. The kinetic energy of water has been used for centuries worldwide. Today, hydropower makes up 16 percent of world-wide electricity production and is thus the most important source of renewable energies.
juwi is a successful project developer for renewable energy plants and therefore always on the lookout for potential sites. juwi realises hydropower plants from site selection up to operational management. If a good location has been selected, juwi acquires it or offers landowners leasehold contracts. Of course, details depend on the location. We also offer to supervise the development of your site.
Good Reasons
Hydropower is an infinite energy source. Moreover, hydropower plants are reliable because of the turbines' durability and their relatively small running costs.
With up to 85 percent efficiency, hydropower is unique among the renewables. Generally, the dam has several functions at the same time, such as flood protection, shipping, water supply and bed reinforcement. Since many parties profit from this synergy, running costs can be shared.
Cost Effectiveness
The lifespan of hydropower plants is long; therefore, there are numerous strategies for marketing. Many countries guarantee a fixed feed-in-compensation in the first years of operation. Afterwards, energy produced by hydropower is predestined for direct marketing. Depending on the trend, direct marketing can already become a financially attractive option prior to the expiry of feed-in-compensation.
Hydropower at juwi
juwi focuses on run-off river plants. The project developer plans a hydropower plant at the existing weir in Krotzenburg/Main (near Aschaffenburg) with an output of at least 1.7 megawatts. The weir has a drop height of 2.7 meters, the plant a performance of about three megawatts.
In addition, we are active in all other application areas as well as in research and development. As prototypes, two hydrokinetic turbines developed by KSB AG were connected to the grid in September 2010 - juwi was responsible for grid connection and property protection.
